STONE

Our stone collections are made primarily from marble and travertine.

Marble is used across a range of our serveware and decorative accessories. Our marble is sourced from India and is available in different natural colours, including white and black, each with its own distinctive veining and markings.

Travertine is sourced from Turkey and is used for products including candlestick holders, bowls and decorative accessories.

Both marble and travertine are completely natural materials. Their colour, markings, veining and surface texture are created by nature, meaning no two pieces of stone will ever look exactly the same.

Our marble products are shaped and finished by skilled craftspeople using a combination of traditional stone-working skills and specialist tools.

For turned designs, a solid piece of marble is secured onto a lathe and rotated while the craftsperson gradually shapes the stone. Working carefully against the rotating surface allows curves, profiles and decorative forms to be created.

A skilled worker can turn approximately 25 pieces in a day, although the time required depends on the size, shape and complexity of the design.

Different types of marble also behave differently while being worked. White marble is softer than black marble and is therefore generally easier to shape.

Once the basic form has been created, the surface is worked through progressively finer abrasive grades to remove tool marks and create the required smooth finish.

The finished stone is then cleaned and inspected before any additional details are added.

Our travertine products begin as pieces of natural stone sourced from Turkey.

The stone is cut and shaped according to the individual design before the surfaces and edges are carefully refined and sanded.

Because travertine naturally contains small holes, cavities and changes in texture, the craftsperson works with the individual character of each piece rather than trying to make every product look completely identical.

This means the finished shape may be consistent, but the natural markings, holes, colour and texture of the stone will remain individual to each product.

Small holes and cavities are a completely natural characteristic of travertine.

Travertine is formed naturally over time, and its structure commonly contains visible pores, pits and small openings. The number, size and position of these holes will vary considerably from one piece of stone to another.

One product may therefore have a relatively smooth surface while another may feature more visible holes and texture.

These natural formations do not mean that the product is damaged. They are part of the character of genuine travertine and help make every piece unique.

Marble and travertine are natural materials, so variation between individual products is completely normal.

Marble can display differences in colour, veining, markings and pattern throughout the stone. Veins may be fine and subtle on one piece and much stronger on another. Different tones can also occur within the same piece of marble.

Travertine naturally varies in colour and texture and commonly contains holes, pores and small cavities. These formations differ from piece to piece and are an inherent characteristic of the stone.

Because our stone products are individually cut, shaped and finished, there may also be small differences in dimensions and surface finish.

These natural variations are part of the character of real stone rather than faults.

Significant cracks, structural damage or breakages are not considered part of this natural variation.

Marble and travertine are naturally porous stones and should be treated with care.

Our marble and travertine products are not dishwasher safe and should never be left soaking or submerged in water.

For everyday cleaning, wipe the surface gently using a soft cloth with a small amount of water and mild detergent where required. Remove excess moisture afterwards and allow the stone to dry completely.

Spills should be wiped away as soon as possible. Oils and other liquids can be absorbed into porous stone if they are left sitting on the surface and may cause staining or discolouration.

Avoid abrasive scourers, harsh chemicals and strong cleaning products, as these may affect the surface and finish of the stone.

Take particular care when moving stone products, as marble and travertine are hard materials but can still chip, crack or break if dropped or struck against a hard surface.
